As we encounter and work with what we encounter we are ever checking one thing against another. We are testing for closeness, farness, similarity, difference, texture, shading, color, scent, feel, heft, opacity, etc., using our soulful-echolocation to “gage” (Old Saxon for “gauge”) the nature of the encounter, the thing encountered, and of course the encounterer.
As we send out that first ping toward the encountered, I find it so powerful to remember that the nature of all that is encountered is a result of a very active – while maybe less recognized – process that is always ocurring. We are always emitting signals to read and assimilate. While we may only notice we are doing this when we “ping” – aka, reach out to touch, or taste, or smell, etc. – we are swimming in our own processes of encounter.
Catch a hint of the ecounter and the processes, if you may.
“EARLIER PLACES“
In the earlier
places of the morning –
the places where darkness
meets silence;
where the echo is
muffled and warm.
There is a purpling feeling
of rare familiarity and
deepest repose. This
is soul. A gentle leaning
into a shadowy wonder.
Welcome.
